The JRC JLR-10 uses a sophisticated three-antenna GPS system to calculate the vessel's heading with extreme precision (typically within 0.5°). Unlike a magnetic compass, it is not affected by the ship's magnetic field or "deviation," and unlike a gyrocompass, it does not require a long settling time or expensive annual overhauls. This makes it an ideal primary heading sensor for Radars, ECDIS, AIS, and Autopilots on commercial vessels.

The system consists of a compact, ruggedized antenna array and a dedicated processor/display unit. Beyond heading, the JLR-10 provides high-accuracy GPS position data and 3-axis motion sensing. This motion data is critical for stabilizing sonar and echo sounder images in rough seas, as it can compensate for the ship’s heave and pitch. Its robust NMEA 0183 and high-speed data outputs ensure it can integrate into any modern bridge suite.

Our refurbished JLR-10 units from the Alang yards undergo a strict technical validation. We focus on the Antenna Array, checking for any moisture ingress or UV damage to the radomes. The internal GPS modules are tested for signal-to-noise ratio to ensure a fast, stable heading lock. We also verify the NMEA output buffers to ensure they are providing clean heading strings (HDT/HDM) to external equipment. Every unit is factory-reset and provided with a detailed test report from our Bhavnagar facility.
